My Deco Plates resulted from producing many "canvasses" where I could experiment with different surface techniques and materials. The prints and drawings I had been making slowly made their way directly onto my glazed surfaces. Through the use of ceramic decals I was able to add a final layer of line work that could be created with another art form - in a sense, collaging the two mediums, adding multiple layers and depth. These decorated plates have now become a constant in my studio and I never lose inspiration to play with new technique and color.
They are hand built with white earthenware clay and fired three times with a maximum temperature of 1950 degrees. Their surface techniques and materials include underglaze, slip trailing, wax, sgraffito, Mishima, glaze and ceramic decals. They double as purely, decorative pieces or as serving plates for light snacks and appetizers. Hand washing is recommended.
